Hair Transplant Week by Week: Recovery, Growth & Results Timeline

washing the donor area after hair transplant

The hair transplant timeline usually begins with healing during the first week, when small scabs form and the scalp may feel sensitive. By the second week, most scabs start to fall off naturally, and the scalp begins to look cleaner.
During months 1 and 2, shedding is common and visible growth is usually limited. Months 3 and 4 are often the first “proof of life” stage, when early thin hairs begin to appear. From months 4 to 6, growth becomes more noticeable, while months 7 to 9 usually bring better density, texture, and coverage.
Most patients see near-final results between months 10 and 12, although some improvements may continue up to 18 months. While slow or uneven growth is often normal, persistent irritation, pain, or no visible growth after several months may require professional evaluation.
